Japan’s Coast Guard is performing a search and rescue mission after the uninhabited islet of Esanbehanakitakojima has completely vanished without so much as a goodbye. Elders in the nearby village of Sarufutsu confirm that there once was an island in the vicinity but is no longer visible. It still appears on naval navigation systems according to local fisherman.
